Papaya is one of the gentlest tropical fruits, mild and mellow with a soft, musky sweetness and a rounder, creamier body than citrus, closer to a ripe melon than to pineapple or mango, and the apple lifts it and adds brightness so the papaya never tastes flat. Bottled papaya juice is uncommon on shelves and the certified organic version is harder still to find.
