KLEIN'S FAMILY MARKETS
About Klein's Family Markets
In 1925, Maurice and Sara Klein opened a small general store in the rural village of Fallston, Maryland. Some 50-plus years later, their son Ralph, his wife Shirley and their sons Andrew and Michael own and operate seven supermarkets throughout Maryland. A fourth generation of the Klein family (Marshall, Sarah, and Stephen) is now actively engaged in the stores’ day-to-day operations. Operating as Klein’s Family Markets, Ralph and his family joined Wakefern in October 2008, becoming the cooperative’s 45th member. Beginning in March, 2009, all Klein’s Family Markets stores transitioned to the ShopRite banner. Klein’s ShopRite of Maryland provides full- and part-time employment to more than 900 associates. The company also takes special pride in its “zero-accident” culture, on-the-job safety record, and one of the industry’s lowest worker’s compensation insurance rates.
Klein’s ShopRite of Maryland supports local education through the Ralph and Shirley Klein Foundation School Grant, a $40,000 annual grant administered through the Board of Education. Also, Klein’s Family Markets and the Ralph and Shirley Klein Foundation provide direct support to not-for-profit organizations throughout Harford and Northern Baltimore County. Klein’s ShopRites are active participants in ShopRite’s Partners in Caring Program, and annually provide more than $150,000 in direct support to community-based organizations; a complete list of donation recipients is posted at each store.
The Klein’s ShopRite of Maryland Charitable Fund Small Grants Program (SGP) allows nonprofits from Harford County, Baltimore County and Baltimore City – where our customers and employees live and work – to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 for one year.
