The [Not So Perfect] Apple Pie

To bake or not to bake? That is the question.  We say bake! We enjoy baking, but we understand pies are not always perfect (unless you’re buying them from our Bakery). Appropriately plump, crispy crust and evenly sliced apples, that’s what the store apple pie has to offer. We’re offering something that doesn’t have the perfect crust all around but definitely is worth taking a large slice.

Try The [Not So Perfect] Apple Pie:

1 box ShopRite refrigerated pie crusts
6 Cups thinly peeled and thinly sliced apples (best apples to bake with: honeycrisp, mutsu and pink lady)
¾ cups sugar
1 ½ tablespoons all-purpose flours
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice

Step 1:
Heat oven to 425°F. Place 1 pie crust in ungreased 9-inch pie plate.  Press firmly against side and bottom.

Step 2:
Gently mix filling ingredients; spoon into crust-lined pie plate. Top with second crust.  Press edges together to seal; flute style. Cut slits in several places on top crust.

Step 3:
Bake 45 min or until apples are tender and crust is golden brown. Cover edge of crust with 2- to 3-inch wide strips of foil after first 15 min of baking to prevent excessive browning. Cool on cooling rack at least 2 hours before serving.
