Cranberry Sauce with Apricots and Raisins

What is a Thanksgiving meal without cranberry sauce?  Whether you love it or hate it, cranberry sauce has long been a holiday tradition and goes hand-in-hand when it comes to your Thanksgiving turkey.  Sure, we all have those iconic cranberry sauce memories and if your memories are anything like mine the cranberry sauce of your childhood took the shape of a can and was sliced up and served on a small dish as somewhat of an afterthought.  But this isn’t the cranberry sauce of your younger years.  This is the cranberry sauce with apricots and raisins is for the food lover in all of us.  It is filled with complimentary flavors and fresh ingredients.  The best part of this cranberry sauce is that it doesn’t require a can opener.

This Thanksgiving why not take your cranberry sauce to the next level by incorporating several different kinds of dried fruits and wintery spices.  Ready in about 30 minutes, this cranberry sauce with apricots and raisins can be made the night before and stored in a mason jar or container in your refrigerator until ready to enjoy.   It is time for your cranberry sauce to take center stage.

Cranberry Sauce with Apricots and Raisins 


12 oz bag of fresh cranberries
1/2 cup chopped dried apricots
1/3 cup ShopRite raisins
3 ounces white wine
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon ShopRite brown sugar
3 tablespoons ShopRite white, granulated sugar
2 tablespoons honey
juice of 1 fresh orange
zest from 1/4 fresh lemon
1 cup water


Add chopped apricots and raisins to pot over medium heat on your stove.

Add white wine and allow apricots and raisins to rehydrate in white wine until reduced.

Add cloves, brown sugar, white sugar, honey, fresh orange juice, and cranberries. Toss to coat.

Add lemon zest and water and cover to boil stirring occasionally.

Once cranberries have come to a boil, simmer covered until water is reduced, cranberries are soft and apricots and raisins are hydrated.  Store in airtight container in refrigerator until ready to use.
