ShopRite SUPERMARKETS OF CHERRY HILL’S “SUPPORT OUR TROOPS” PROGRAM Touched The Lives Of 238 U.S. Soldiers Overseas Contact: Jeannette Castaneda Wakefern Food Corp. 732-906-5004 jeannette.castaneda@wakefern.com
CHERRY HILL / MARLTON / MT. LAUREL, NJ; August 7, 2006 – ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill announces the outstanding results of its three-month long “Support Our Troops” program launched this past spring. During the months of April, May and June, the Ravitz family’s ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill delivered 238 care packages to service men and women stationed overseas from the surrounding communities of Cherry Hill, Marlton, and Mt. Laurel.
With the help from Operation Military Pride (www.operationmilitarypride.org) – a volunteer organization focused on boosting the morale of military men and women deployed overseas, associates from the three ShopRite locations in New Jersey invited customers to purchase $20.00 care packages valued at $40.00 each to be delivered directly to the troops via U.S. mail. Customers had a choice to purchase either a “Personal Care Gift Package” that contained essential personal care products or a “Munchie Gift Package” that included various popular snacks such as peanuts, cookies, toaster tarts and granola bars. Since the program’s launch, ShopRite has received numerous letters of gratitude from care package recipients who have benefited from “Support Our Troops.” One member of the U.S. Marine Core wrote, "Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in sending the very nice care package. They are all very welcomed treats for the Marines here. I am reminded everyday of how fortunate we are to live in the greatest country on earth by the support and generosity we receive from nice people like you," wrote LtCol Steve Hanson (U.S. Marine Core). All letters are on display in each of the Ravitz ShopRite’s for customers to see how their generosity has made a difference in the lives of members of the armed forces.
“I am overjoyed to have been able to offer our customers the opportunity to reach out to our local service men and women with a token of admiration and appreciation for their hard work while overseas,” said Steve Ravitz, owner and operator of ShopRite Supermarkets of Cherry Hill. “The outpouring of gratitude displayed by our troops after receiving the care packages is incredibly touching and fulfilling.”
