Bloody Mary Bonanza with V8

Happy New Year and Happy National Bloody Mary Day! We partnered with V8 to share five phenomenal bloody mary concoctions so you can ring in the New Year in style.

Chicago Style Bloody Mary

Classic Bloody Mary

Prep Time 5 minutes | Total Time 5 minutes | Serves 4 (about 1 cup each)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups V8® V8® Original
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon hot pepper sauce(optional)
  • 4 celery stalks

Directions

  1. Stir the vegetable juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire, pepper and hot pepper sauce, if desired in a large pitcher. Serve over ice. Garnish with celery stalks.

Ingredient Note: If you like, add 3/4 cup vodka to vegetable juice mixture.

California Roll Bloody Mary

California Roll Bloody Mary

Ingredients

  • 7 teaspoons liquid from jarred pickled ginger or lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 12 fluid ounces V8® V8® Original (about 1 1/2 cups), chilled
  • 4 fluid ounces sake (about 1/2 cup), chilled
  • 1 fluid ounce vodka (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon wasabi paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery salt

Directions

  1. Pour 1 teaspoon pickled ginger liquid into a shallow dish. Stir the ginger, sugar, salt and sesame seeds on a plate.  Dip the rims of 2 glasses into the pickled ginger liquid then coat with the ginger mixture.  Fill the glasses with ice.
  2. Stir the vegetable juice, sake, vodka, soy sauce, wasabi, celery salt and remaining pickled ginger liquid in a pitcher. Season to taste.  Pour the vegetable juice mixture into the glasses.

Serving Suggestion: Garnish with skewers of Asian-inspired bites, like California rolls, pickled ginger, strips of cucumber and/or vegetable dumplings.

Kansas City Bloody Mary

Kansas City BBQ Bloody Mary

Prep Time 10 minutes | Total Time 10 minutes | Serves 2 people

Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 1/8 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dark brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 12 fluid ounces V8® V8® Spicy Hot (about 1 1/2 cups), chilled
  • 4 fluid ounces vodka (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ¼ teaspoon ground chipotle chile powder
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon celery salt

Directions

  1. Pour 1 teaspoon cider vinegar into a shallow dish. Stir 1 teaspoon each paprika, brown sugar and salt on a plate.  Dip the rims of 2 glasses into the vinegar then coat with the paprika mixture.  Fill the glasses with ice.
  2. Stir the vegetable juice, vodka, Worcestershire, chipotle chili powder, garlic salt, celery salt and remaining cider vinegar, brown sugar and paprika in a pitcher. Season to taste.  Pour the vegetable mixture into the glasses.

Recipe Tips

Serving Suggestion: Garnish with skewers of BBQ-inspired bites, like BBQ ribs, cornbread cubes or 1-inch slices corn on the cob.  Or try skewered onion rings, curly fries, jalapeño poppers, pickled jalapeño slices or crispy cooked bacon.

Chicago Style Bloody Mary

Chicago-Style Bloody Mary

Prep Time 10 minutes | Total Time 10 minutes | Serves 2 people

Ingredients

  • ½ teaspoon poppy seeds
  • 1 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1 wedge lemon
  • 2 dill pickle spears
  • 12 fluid ounces V8® V8® Original (about 1 1/2 cups), chilled
  • 4 fluid ounces vodka (about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons yellow mustard
  • ¾ teaspoon dill pickle juice
  • ¾ teaspoon finely grated sweet onion

Directions

  1. Stir the poppy seeds and 1/4 teaspoon celery salt on a plate. Rub the cut side of the lemon wedge around the rims of 2 glasses.  Dip the rims of the glasses into the poppy seed mixture to coat.  Place the pickle spears into the glasses.  Fill the glasses with ice.
  2. Stir the vegetable juice, vodka, mustard, pickle juice, onion and remaining celery salt in a pitcher. Season to taste.  Pour the vegetable juice mixture into the glasses.

Serving Suggestion: Garnish with skewers of Chicago-style favorites, like cherry tomatoes, sport peppers or pepperoncini peppers, gherkins, grilled Vienna sausages, and/or cocktail onions.

Bloody Mariner

Boston Bloody Mariner

Prep Time 10 minutes | Total Time 10 minutes | Serves 2

Ingredients

  • 10 fluid ounces V8® V8® Original (about 1 1/4 cups), chilled
  • 2 fluid ounces vodka (about 1/4 cup)
  • 2 fluid ounces white wine (about 1/4 cup), chilled
  • 2 fluid ounces clam juice (about 1/4 cup), chilled
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon horseradish
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 small clove garlic, peeled and grated

Directions

  1. Fill 2 glasses with ice. Stir the vegetable juice, vodka, wine, clam juice, lemon juice, Worcestershire, horseradish, hot pepper sauce, parsley and garlic in a pitcher.  Season to taste.  Pour the vegetable juice mixture into the glasses.

Serving Suggestion: Garnish with sprigs of fresh parsley or skewers of seaside bites like fried clam strips (add tartar sauce, if you like) and lemon wedges and/or chunks of garlic bread.
