Fresh Spinach ... The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised the public that it is safe to consume fresh spinach that has been grown outside of the three Counties in California (Monterey, San Benito and Santa Clara) that have been implicated in the current E. coli 0157:H7 outbreak. All fresh spinach and salad blends that contain fresh spinach available in ShopRite stores are clearly labeled with the location of the growing area. Remember to use safe food handling practices to avoid cross-contamination of fresh spinach with other foods and food contact surfaces. Always wash hands, utensils, and preparation surfaces with hot, soapy water before and after handling spinach or other foods. |
