ShopRite Tops in Philadelphia-area Kosher Survey

Cherry Hill, Philadelphia stores named “Best of Kosher Philadelphia”

ELIZABETH, New Jersey – January 8, 2007 – ShopRite supermarkets in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and Philadelphia were named “Best of Kosher Philadelphia” in a recent survey of the area’s kosher consumers.

ShopRite of Garden State Pavilion, in Cherry Hill, and Philadelphia’s ShopRite of Roosevelt Boulevard, earned the distinction based on the percentage of customers rating them “very good” or “excellent” on price, food and service quality, selection and store environment in the 2006 Philadelphia Area Kosher Community Survey.

Along with the Cherry Hill store’s 3,300-square-foot “Kosher Experience” store-within-a-store and adherence to the highest kosher standards, its employees were the main reason for the honor, said Steve Ravitz, president of Supermarkets of Cherry Hill Inc.

“We have spent an enormous amount of time and effort in developing the ‘Kosher Experience’ over the past seven years, and are very proud of this recognition,” Ravitz said. “Ultimately, I’m most proud of the ‘Kosher Experience’ staff. The difference is customer service and all the credit belongs to them. They’re very dedicated, very knowledgeable in all aspects of Kashruth (Jewish dietary laws).”

Richard McMenamin, owner of the ShopRite of Roosevelt Boulevard, was pleased by his store’s strong showing in the Philadelphia area’s first survey of kosher customers. “It’s gratifying to know that the effort we’ve put into being a part of the community is being recognized by our customers,” he said. “We’ve done a lot in recent years to enhance our kosher offerings, and it’s rewarding to know it’s appreciated.”

McMenamin also called the survey a good source of both information and motivation: “This kind of feedback always helps us better understand our customers. And, from a competitive standpoint, the results are encouraging us to look at ways we can take our kosher program to the next level.”

Conducted by Kosher Community Surveys LLC, the survey was the first of its kind in Philadelphia and will be repeated annually, KCS president Neil Rosenbaum said in a press release announcing the survey results. In addition to being a consumer resource, Rosenbaum said the survey also “can provide restaurants, bakeries and stores with guidance on how to better serve their customers.”
